“I sat for my KCSE in 2023 and scored 57 points, a B-. I applied for university placement through KUCCPS and was admitted to Kenyatta University to pursue Education Science. Unfortunately, I couldn’t enroll due to financial constraints and the dire situation at home. The tuition fee for the course was Ksh. 132,000 for the first year, excluding other expenses.

I couldn’t afford it, not even close. I still have an outstanding fee balance of Ksh. 2,000 from high school, and the school is holding onto my result slip and leaving certificate because I haven’t paid for three textbooks I owe them to date.

Since Kenyatta University was out of reach, my father suggested I try KMTC, hoping the fees would be more affordable. I applied, and by good fortune, I was admitted to KMTC Kakamega to study Public Health. But the fees, Ksh. 82,000, are still beyond my reach.

We tried organizing a fundraiser, but it only added to our heartbreak. After spending Ksh. 6,700 on food and printing invitation letters, we raised just Ksh. 2,155. My father was left in debt, and since that day, he hasn’t mentioned anything about my education again.

I’ve been the one following up on my registration process, borrowing a friend’s phone to get it done. Now, I am supposed to report in January next year, but I don’t see how it will happen.” Nashion
